June is Pride Month, a time to honor the right to love. So many came before and fought the battle for freedom and equal rights, and the battle continues today. We take the time to celebrate our LGBTQ community, and Oak Bluffs will have a weekend full of celebrations to bring people together over June 12 to 14. The Pride Parade is on Saturday, starting at the harbor, winding joyously through town and landing in Ocean Park for a party with music and guest speakers. The Red Cat will be hosting the Drag Brunch on Sunday, always a sell-out.
O.B. Library Book Drive is on June 6. Please donate your books in GOOD to EXCELLENT condition from 11 am to 2 pm. This will be the last drive before the book sale, July 23 to 25. If you cannot make it, you can bring up to 12 books to the library during regular hours or schedule larger donations at libraryfriendsob@gmail.com.
The first West Tisbury summer Farmers Market is Saturday, June 6! Support local farmers and food vendors, get some plants for your garden, flowers for your house, and grab some Stony Hill pizza, plus everyone’s favorite pierogis and egg rolls!
Music in the Park on Sunday, June 7 features the Black-Eyed Susans from 5:30 to 7:30 pm. Bring your chairs and your dancing shoes!

Circuit Arts has launched its year-round live music series. The next performance at the Strand will be June 12, featuring recording artist Emily King at 8 pm. The life of Marcelle BenDavid will be honored with a funeral Mass on Saturday, June 6, at St. Augustine’s Church at 10 am, followed by an evening gathering at Menemsha Beach at 6 pm. The community is invited to join the family to remember and celebrate her life.
Happy birthday to Bert Combra on June 4! Dolores Borza and Laura Hayden celebrate on June 5. On the 6th we send birthday hugs to Sandi Santinello, Jennifer Robinson, and Amelie Loyott. June 7 is the day to celebrate Janet Howard, Ray Moreis, Leandra Seward, and Zoe Thompson. On June 8, we send many happy returns across the water to expat Jude Sanches! Jude shares the day with Scott Robinson, Bob Murphy, Alan Slatas, and Frank Lloyd Wright. Balloons go to Brie Sylvia Olender on June 9. Michael J. Fox and Brooke Leahy also celebrate on the 9th.
