The Martha’s Vineyard Camp Meeting Association (MVCMA) has a robust season of events at the iconic Tabernacle, coming up this summer. The events include Sunday worship services, family-friendly festivals, educational and historic lectures, movie screenings, and headliner concerts.
The Spiritual Life Committee has planned a series of knowledgeable, spirit-filled, and relevant preachers and teachers, such as Dean Lawrence Carter, Ph.D., Dr. Brian Jefferson Mosley, Bishop William Murphy, Dr. Jamal Bryant, Pastor Marrisa Farrow, and Dr. Stacie Grant. Sunday morning services begin July 5, and Bible studies are at 10 am on Tuesdays and Thursdays beginning June 30.
Vocalists of all levels are invited to participate in the MVCMA Island-Wide Choir. Rehearsals are on Saturdays at 10 am in the Tabernacle with Maestro Michael Ross. Interested persons can register via the website, mvcma.org/calendar. Family favorite Community Sing will be held on Wednesdays at 7:30 pm, led by well-respected Island musician, teacher, and songwriter Seán McMahon. Additional weekly events include the Tent Talk lecture series Fridays at 11 am, and the Sunset Concert Series on Fridays at 6:30 pm.
On July 4, the MVCMA will honor the U.S.’ milestone 250th anniversary with a day full of events. The children’s parade will begin at 9 am, the reading of Frederick Douglass’ speech with Jay Rosen at noon, and a special performance of the Island Community Chorus at 7 pm.
Seasonal highlights include the annual Juneteenth Flag Raising Ceremony, which will be held on June 19 at 11 am, and family-friendly events such as the annual Children’s Festival on July 25, Tanglewood Marionettes on July 14, the Kids’ Talent Show on July 23, the Children’s Art Show (Island-wide for the first time) on August 4, and more.
“This summer’s list of events supports our mission ‘to perpetuate our religious and historical heritage, engaging all in education and spiritual growth in a welcoming faith community,’”
said Sherrie Saint-Amant, MVCMA board president. “We’re looking forward to welcoming friends old and new to experience summer in the Campground!”
