Back to school. Labor Day weekend. Two weeks of summer left. This past week was a busy one, as always, and I’m reminiscing about a few memorable moments of the week, to share some ideas, thank some people, and then look at what’s coming up this week.

First up, I ran into Christina of the Christina Gallery on 5 Winter St., and we chatted about art and life. The gallery has been in business for 49 years — an absolutely incredible achievement! One of my favorite things about her gallery is that it prides itself on having a varied price range to allow all who visit the gallery to feel welcome and return to it often. It’s a great place to pick up a gift for oneself, or start considering holiday gifting. Stop by, check out the art, and say hi to Christina while you’re there.

On a similar topic surrounding the community, I was invited to attend the Labor Day Kick-Off Party, hosted by the O’Hanlon Group at Bad Martha’s Brewery. As you obviously know, I’m not in the business of real estate, but I am in the business of connecting people, so this invite is always such a fun one to accept. Jen, Melanie, Susie, and Jared are a team who excel at what they do: building community being at the core of that! Plus, who can say no to free pizza and beer?!

Since I’ve mentioned food, I do have to note three delicious moments I had this past week: dinner at Behind the Bookstore was delectable, and it has only one weekend left of dinner service, so I recommend stopping in and ordering the halibut. Another dinner, this time at Atria while sitting outdoors on the front lawn, was truly what a summer evening should be; order the ginger-braised pork belly — delightful. And for dessert, Leah Fraumeni has been reminding me on a weekly basis that I had not tried the black sesame and Chilmark Coffee swirl soft-serve at Vineyard Scoops, so I finally made it happen, and here’s my public acknowledgement to her: Leah, you were right. It’s the perfect combination, and I will be having it at least four more times before summer ends!

Last thing I do have to mention about last week is that I attended the “Ginger Snaps” photography exhibition at the Edgartown library, showcasing the work of Island photographer Alex Wright. The show will be hanging on the walls for the entire month of September, and is free and open to the public during normal operating hours. I urge you to stop in and check it out; it’s truly fantastic work!

Somehow I’ve gotten to the end of my word count, and need to at least remind you of one event coming up: Morning Glory Farm’s Corn Shuck & Shimmy, taking place on Friday, Sept. 11, from 5 to 8 pm. There will be a corn-shucking competition, live music, delicious food, corn baked goods, and more, so make sure to stop by the farmstand!

Hating to end on a somber but necessary note, this year marks the 25th anniversary of 9/11. Twenty-five years later, we still remember. Sending love to all those affected by September 11.
