Joyful sounds drifted down from Rebecca Gilbert and Randy Ben David’s Native Earth Teaching Farm Applefest on Sunday.

Thank you, Randy Ben David, for getting the too-heavy trash to the dump, and persevering and building the top delivery parking area with the right size and color of brown pea gravel. Randy does tractor work, and can be reached at the farm at 508-645-3304.

The temperatures are dropping at night. Heavier blankets are on the beds. A normal-for-springtime lilac blossom appeared in the leafless bushes. The cherry tomatoes are still sweet. The patch of parsley that flavors soups, and a tincture of ginger, lemon, apple, cucumber, and turmeric, is thriving.

Ghost Island Farm offers a wonderful selection of Island-grown apples.

North Tabor Farm’s stand is filled with yummy treats, and its guest chef, Irene Wong, is leaving at the end of October. Her Instagram posts are exhilarating. Every week as I tap eggs until they crack before placing them in water to boil, I thank Irene. This method makes it so much easier to peel fresh eggs. We were blessed to have you in the neighborhood, wish you well, will continue to cheer you on, and are eager to see what comes next.

Happy birthday to Anne Barry, South Road, Chilmark. She turns 100 on Oct. 20. Sarah Kuh wrote, “Mom started coming to Chilmark in the 1930s as a teenager with her parents, Margaret (Gude) Barry and Addison Barry. She moved here full-time in 1997, and has been in her home on the family plot since then. She is excited about turning 100!”

Cathlin Baker, minister of the First Congregational Church of West Tisbury, is on sabbatical, and the Rev. Julie Johnson Staples is stepping in for October. Staples will lead three Kairos Bible Studies, Wednesdays from 10:30 to 11:30 am. These will focus on New Testament and Hebrew Bible texts that invite two questions, “Why is this story included in the Bible?” and “How did scripture influence Christian-Wampanoag first contact and engagement on Cape Cod and Martha’s Vineyard?” All are welcome! The study will explore journalistic, theological, historical, and legal perspectives on land and sovereignty in Massachusetts, while drawing comparative examples from Rhode Island and Connecticut. For more information, contact Julie Staples at officewtiscong@gmail.com.

On Saturday, Oct. 17, Martha’s Vineyard residents and visitors are invited to be part of the No Kings: Vote Early rally at Five Corners, Vineyard Haven, from 1 to 2 pm.

Come Saturday, Oct. 17, at 3 pm to the Martha’s Vineyard Museum for the League of Women Voters of Martha’s Vineyard Tea. Meet wonderful people, and learn how you can help.

MV CROP Hunger Walk is on Sunday, Oct. 18. Walkers gather at 1:30 pm at St. Augustine’s Church in Vineyard Haven. The route is from the church to Lagoon Bridge and back. We love having others cheer us on.

See you Tuesday at 6 pm for Pizza Night at the Chilmark Church.
