The Vineyard girls tennis team got off to a rousing start in the state tourney with a 5-0 victory last Friday over 14th seeded Seekonk.
All five matches ended in straight sets. The Vineyarders (17-2) advance to play the winner of the Westport-Fairhaven match, Tuesday at 3:15 at MVRHS.
M.V. won the first three matches in under an hour. Both doubles teams, Dylan Brockmeyer and Alyssa Adler; Julia Cooper and Annabelle Hackney, won 6-0, 6-0. Wendy Wen defeated Kelsey Harrington at third singles 6-0, 6-2.
Annie Burton put the home team up 4-0 with a 6-1, 6-0 win over Alex Beyrouthy.
Samantha Potter, the Vineyard’s number one singles player, wrapped up the shutout with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Hope Starr-Mararian.
