Tisbury seniors are invited to tea in our Senior Center library today from 2 to 3 pm. You are asked to share a short story about someone who changed the course of your life or had an impact on your decisions. These are sort of love stories. Not necessarily the person you married, but one who influenced you to take the “road less traveled.” Just show up. And even if you can’t make the tea, you might find this an interesting thought for your day.

The Vineyard Conservation Society invites you to the Edgartown Harbor Beach and Lighthouse on Sunday. Meet at 1 pm in front of the Harbor View Hotel for a special Valentine’s Day adventure through Island conservation history. VCS is partnering with the Martha’s Vineyard Museum to provide access to the lighthouse during the walk, and with the Harbor View, which will offer refreshments afterward. The walk is free and open to the public.

ACE MV has many new courses. Want to try self-publishing, conversational Portuguese, clothing repair, or a wine tour of Italy? Learn something new this year.

The Vineyard Haven library asks for Food for Fines this month. Pay overdue fines with canned goods or nonperishable food. Do check expiration dates. Only unopened and current items can be donated. This is for late fines only, not charges for lost or damaged items. The food will go to the Island Food Pantry.

The free program “Powerful Tools for Caregivers” is six sessions of self-care education for family caregivers. You may not want to admit it, but you can learn ways to handle the unique challenges of caregiving, and also ways to take better care of yourself. That’s important, for often you may be all that allows the one you care for to remain at home. Sessions will be held from March 7 to April 11 from 2 to 4:30 pm at Howes House, the Up-Island COA. You must register: Call Mary Holmes at 508-560-6012 or go to PowerfulToolsMV@gmail.com.

Did you know that an android was patented in 1883 by an Edgartown inventor? A show about “Inventive Islanders” opens tomorrow from 4 to 6 pm at the Martha’s Vineyard Museum. The focus is Island inventions, from improving tools to new and strange devices, and even fantastical machines created just for the joy of it.

You can see more about this in a 2010 article in the Dukes County Intelligencer. Some of the inventors are Orin Norton, Elisha Dexter, John Crowell, William Barry Owen (think RCA), Abner West, and Moses Adams. Admission is free to members, $8 for nonmembers. The exhibit will be up through Memorial Day. Remember, in winter the museum is open to Islanders for free.

Family matters. Every family runs into problems. And often the family finds it difficult to talk about the issues. Learn about Island mediators, who can help with difficult conversations about relationships, finances, and conflicts. Meet Dr. Richard Barbieri, president of the Martha’s Vineyard Mediation Program, and Katherine Triantafillou, lawyer and mediator, on Tuesday at 7 pm at the Vineyard Haven library.

Featherstone and the Oak Bluffs Association present Art on the Avenue from now through March. Local artists have created colorful displays in the empty storefront windows of Circuit Avenue. You can see the gorgeous window displays any time of the day or night during February and March.

Big bunches of birthday balloon wishes go out tomorrow to Eli Hanschka, Nat Benjamin, and Simone Davis. And don’t forget Abe Lincoln. Saturday belongs to Lee Fierro and Fiona Mayhew. On Sunday, wish the best to Chris Morse and Gayle Stiller. Happy birthday to Grace Burton-Sundman and Trina Kingsbury on Monday. Tuesday is party day for Mary Gillette, Tom Lowe, and Izzy Wajda. Colin Kennedy parties on Wednesday.

Heard on Main Street: Happy Valentine’s Day — tell someone you love.
