State Police are investigating a three-car chain reaction accident just after 1 am Monday on the Oak Bluffs side of the new Lagoon Pond drawbridge.
State Police Officer Robert Branca said the driver of a Harbor Taxi van driving in the direction of Oak Bluffs was crossing the bridge when she appeared to have experienced some type of medical condition and strayed across the center line. The driver of an oncoming vehicle attempted to avoid the taxi, but was sideswiped by the taxi and struck another car.
Trooper Branca said the cab driver suffered minor injuries. Three young people in one car and one individual in the other vehicle were not injured. The cab driver was cited for a marked lanes violation. Speed does not appear to have been a factor, he said. There was no damage to the new drawbridge.
John Rose, Oak Bluffs Fire and Emergency Medical Services Chief, said one person was transported to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital with minor injuries.
The road was closed for about one hour in both directions while police and rescue crews sorted out the accident.
