Art in the Stacks through June at the Vineyard Haven library offers ceramic sculpture and drawings by Jennifer Langhammer. Jennifer graduated from California College of the Arts and attended the School of the Museum of Fine Arts.

Parents of little ones need to know that the VH library winter storytimes on Tuesday and Wednesday will resume after Labor Day. Beginning Tuesday, June 27, storytime will be at 10 am for ages up to 2, and at 11 am for ages 3 to 5, throughout the summer.

Next Tuesday, June 13, at 7 pm, the Vineyard Haven library presents “Islanders Read the Classics” at the Katharine Cornell Theater. Professor Phil Weinstein will discuss “Something Gone Wrong with the Silence: Reflections on Samuel Beckett.” Prof. Weinstein is entrancing, so you will enjoy this free event even if, as Whit Griswold said, you are not quite sure about “Godot.”

Families with children up to age 8 are invited to join in gardening at the Martha’s Vineyard Family Center on Greenwood Avenue, with Island Grown School’s preschool coordinator, Ava Castro. Family Center is open to the public, and has a playroom with games, puzzles, and books that families can use during Open Center, 8:30 am to noon on Tuesday, June 13.

If you enjoy hymn singing, Phil Dietterich and Peter Boak will lead the Sunday morning worship service at the Federated Church in Edgartown on June 11. Using the hymnal, they will lead a guided hymn sing, revealing many unknown facts found in the hymnal. The congregation will also choose some favorite hymns. Flag Day is next Wednesday, June 14. Our flag will be on display if it doesn’t rain. My English cousin finds it amusing that Americans exhibit their patriotism and like to fly the flag. I hope yours will be out.

Harold Lloyd’s satire of 1920s college and football mania, “The Freshman,” is one of his most enduring films nearly 100 years later. A new score by the Berklee Silent Film Orchestra will be performed with the film on opening night of the FILMUSIC Festival on Thursday, June 22, at 7:30 pm at the Martha’s Vineyard Film Center. Tickets are $35.
