Noted wine expert Lorenzo Savona will return to Edgartown’s The Terrace at the Charlotte Inn on Friday, Sept. 19, and Saturday, Sept. 20, as part of the restaurant’s guest sommelier dinner series.

Over the summer, executive chef Justin Melnick invited some of New England’s top wine experts — importers, sommeliers, and restaurateurs with decades of experience — to share their knowledge with restaurant guests during dinner. Savona kicked off the popular series in July.

Savona’s background in food and wine ranges from retail wine sales to work as an importer, wine director, and restaurateur, including founding Boston’s Les Zygomates Wine Bar and Bistro and co-founding Tomasso Trattoria in Southborough. He was named Boston’s best sommelier by Food and Wine Magazine, and his discerning palate and creative energy have earned accolades from Wine Spectator and Gourmet magazines, among others. His latest endeavor as a consultant, portavino.com, combines his passions for people, wine, and food.

In addition to spending the evening with dinner guests at The Terrace, the sommeliers conduct wine classes with the restaurant’s staff during the day. Each has his own specialty, Melnick says, but they all share an enthusiasm for superior-quality artisanal wines, the people who make them and the people who drink them, and a collaborative approach to bringing them all together.

Reservations are required for all dinners, including the sommelier series. For more information, see theterracemv.com/menu/special-events or call 508-627-6227 to reserve a table.
