THEY’RE BACK!
As March grows warmer, come what may,
I visit osprey nests each day.
Some are far, some in quick reach,
From Mink Meadows to Lobsterville Beach.
I leave home while the sky’s still black,
Hoping to snap the first bird back.
In mid-March, experts predict: “Any day!”
The computer says there are two birds on the way.
On March 25, my pre-dawn watchery
Placed me next to the Lobster Hatchery.
Looking at me was this welcome sight…
A “just-landed” bird, tired from its flight.
For this bird, its next vital date
Will mark the arrival of its mate.
