National Volunteer Week gives towns the opportunity to shine the spotlight on individuals who give their time to serve the community, and that’s just what the Tisbury Council on Aging and Rising Tide Therapeutic Equestrian Center did.

The Tisbury Council on Aging invited members of the community and the host of volunteers who make everything run so smoothly at the center to a brunch catered by Mediterranean. Emmett Schmarsow, Program Manager, of the Massachusetts Executive Office of Elder Affairs, and Tisbury selectmen Tristan Israel and Jeff Kristal also attended.”Volunteers don’t save the town money, they give the town money. Their service is a gift to the town,” Mr. Schmarsow said, in honor of the volunteers.Mr. Israel presented each volunteer with a certificate of appreciation and Mr. Kristal pinned a corsage on each person, being extremely careful not to slip.
