To the Editor:
Many thanks to all the families, teachers, school food service staff, farmers, chefs, and community members who came out to support Island Grown Initiative’s Island Grown Schools program, at our fundraising dinner last week.
Nearly 200 people came out on a rainy night to celebrate all that we’ve done in the last three years to bring more local food to our schools, to increase student understanding of agriculture and nutrition, and to bring Island kids to our local family farms.
This program is a true community effort, and we are so grateful to all who give their time, energy, and financial support to our work. Special thanks to DJ Di for playing great music, all the artists who created beautiful pieces for our silent auction, Christine Cardoza and family for the delicious food, and Brandt Beef and Cronig’s Market for food donations.
Swing by your local Island school to see what’s growing in their garden, and thank you again to everyone who is a part of this program.
