July’s rays have begun to bake
this half-built nest on Crystal Lake.
Above the water’s land-locked shores,
heat brings a halt to nest-building chores.
Because she arrived back late,
she’s yet to settle on a mate.
Observant neighbors begin to fear….
she may have to wait another year.
Our subject doesn’t seem to mind;
her biological clock has time.
She’s known to emote, strong feelings exude;
she’s a female osprey with attitude.
