The basis for this August story:
a corn-buying trip to Morning Glory.
The Edgartown farm is not too far,
but I hate a long wait in the car.
In my subsequent stroll, I had the good luck
to find melon-pickers unloading a truck.
And adding to my surprise to boot….
I learned the Vineyard produced this fruit.
Relatively small, round, and clean,
they come striped or in solid dark green.
No ifs, and, buts, or maybes….
these melons are aptly called “sugar-babies.”
