The Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School’s girls’ varsity basketball team lost its duel with Marshfield in the Norwell tournament, Tuesday, 44-42.
Jillian Sedlier was high scorer for the Islanders with 21 points, 17 of which were posted in the first half. Other MV scorers were Alicia Oliveira (6), Jennie Lindland (5), Crystal Miske and Maddy Penicaud (3 each), and Molly Fischer and Kendall Robinson (2).
Last Thursday, the varsity team visited Sandwich for a repeat match with the Lady Blue Knights. Previously, the Islanders had trounced Sandwich here at the Sancy Pachico gym with seeming ease, 46-33.
Was it a change in home-court advantage? Was it the undeniable sweet taste of revenge? Was it just one of those things? Whatever it was, Sandwich scored 18 more points than it did when the teams last played.
Although the Islanders played their usual strong game, even scoring four more points than they did in the first meeting of the teams, at game’s end Sandwich claimed the win by a single point, 51-50.
Jillian Sedlier had the game-high 19 for MV and Crystle Miske added 17, including four from long range.
The Vineyarders led by as much as eight points in the fourth quarter but could not contain Meg Harden and Katie Corey of Sandwich while Fran Davis hardened the defensive pressure.
