“Now and Zen” gets a win

“Martha’s Vineyard – Now and Zen” by Susan Klein and Alan Brigish recently won in the Wild Card category of the New England Book Festival. “Now and Zen” is a collection of essays by Ms. Klein and photographs by Mr. Brigish that celebrates the unique and picturesque rhythms of Island life. Good reads

The Island’s Sustainable Book Club announces its upcoming book selections and meetings. The group starts 2011 with “Slow Food Nation” by Carlo Petrini, and will meet to discuss the book on Sunday, Jan. 23 at 3 pm, at the West Tisbury Library. On February 9 at 5:30 pm, the group discusses “The Unsettling of America” by Wendell Berry at Felix Neck; on March 16, discuss “The Year of the Flood” by Margaret Atwood at the Chilmark Library, 5:30 pm.

Lore of the Baal Shem Tov

The Martha’s Vineyard Hebrew Center presents a cantata, “Seven Golden Buttons,” this Friday, Jan. 7, at 6:30 pm. Written by Judith K. and Ira Eisenstein, directed by Ljuba Davis, the musical story about the power of faith, love, and a miracle features adults and children of the center.
