It certainly feels like January in this house: I’ve been sick for a week, and I have two hyper dogs who are dying to get out and run around, but not in those silly jackets they have to wear. Even little 12-pound guys have their pride. And then there is the bitter end to football season for Pats fans. How now will we bridge the gap until Spring Training?
In the meantime, let’s talk about those who are off to warmer climes.
Katie Brewer has been soaking up the sun while cruising the Caribbean with friends. Stops have included Barbados, Puerto Rico, St. Croix, and many other island locales.
Kurstin Meehan and Dayce Moore are off to visit Heather Bernier in Hawaii. I can’t wait to hear about the fun adventures they get into, hopefully none of which involve live volcanoes.
In case you go to pay your water bill and end up scratching your head, the Edgartown Water department has moved to 58 Kavanaugh Way. To get to the new location, going from Edgartown toward the airport on West Tisbury Road. Kavanaugh Way is on the left, opposite from the Vineyard Golf Club. The new office is at the end of Kavanaugh Way and is the only building on that street.
The phone number for the Water Department remains the same: 508-627-4717.
I got an email from Lisa Sherman at the Edgartown Library with a few tidbits to share. Starting on Wednesday, January 26, Elyce Bonnell will host Wii Dance Wednesdays for those over 18 years old. Half-hour time slots are available from 5:15 pm through 6:45 pm; sign-up is required; to sign up, call 508-627-4221. Healthy snacks will be served. Also, the free film series has resumed with a series of six films with food as the focus. Coffee and healthy desserts will be served. Finally, January is Fine Amnesty Month, so bring an appropriate donation for the Island Food Pantry and have your overdue fines waived.
Felix Neck will host a night of stargazing with Mark Alan Lovewell on January 28, 6-8 pm. Beginners will view the stars and planets and discover winter constellations. Warm up inside the Felix Neck Wildlife Sanctuary Nature Center with hot cocoa and tea. This program will only run on a clear, cloudless night, so call the day of the program. For more information, call 508-627-4850.
Birthday wishes go out to Jade Deslauriers, who celebrates, Saturday, January 22; Louis Paciello and Jeff Donaroma, Tuesday, January 25; and Karen Coffey, Wednesday, January 26. Hope you have a good time.
I hope you all are staying warm and avoiding all these evil winter bugs that are circulating. Let me know how you choose to pass these deep winter months. The novelty of shorter lines at Stop & Shop can only sustain us so long. Tommy Smith pointed out that we have only four full moons left until the striped bass are back. Four seems doable. What do you think?
