The under-15 and under-13 Martha’s Vineyard Girls Youth Lacrosse travel teams opened their seasons Sunday at Falmouth. The U-15 girls won their first game, besting Falmouth, 6-4, on goals by Aubrey Ashmun (2), Lucy Hackney, Lee Hayman, Erin Hagerty, and Shannon Morris. Goalie Sam Hargy made four saves.
The under-13 girls gave Falmouth all it could (and did) handle, losing 5-8. Lacey Dinning scored four times. Audrey McCarron also found the back of the net. Kyle Hatt made five saves in goal.
The Martha’s Vineyard Boys Youth Lacrosse under-13 team, coached by Bruce Mahaffey, lost its first game of the season to Old Rochester, Sunday, 8-6. Henry Wallace scored for the Vineyard three times, once assisted by Jacob Gunderson. Gunderson and Donald O’Shaughnessy also scored as did Chris Patnude assisted by Jackson Mahaffey. MV’s final two goals were by Henry Wallace unassisted.
The Vineyard goalie was Karn Datta.
This Sunday the team is at Sandwich.
