Alma Tilton Lowe, daughter of Thomas and Alice Tilton, born on the Vineyard on Sept. 3, 1933, has departed the Earth and now resides in Glory, joining the love of her life, Ervin (“Lee”) Lowe Jr., who preceded her.
Many fondly knew her as Snookie, a woman who served her community and beyond; played piano at church, hosting the live Nativity, Bible studies, provided childcare for many single moms, started a bottle drive to provide financial assistance to deserving international low-income children, helped lead a Toys for Tots distribution, and so much more. When she saw a need, she found a way to fill it. She always welcomed anyone to come sit at her table, share a cup of tea, and just talk while she listened.
She was an amazing wife, mom, grandma, and friend. She was who she was and did what she did because she knew who she was in her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She did not just claim to have a faith; she lived her faith. Snookie leaves behind a legacy of acting out a love for others with respect, compassion, and a desire to make a difference one life at a time; not to be recognized or praised, but to receive the blessing of giving — an act that seems to be unknown to too many. Our family is grateful to have been raised by a woman who demonstrated faithfully this ability.
She will fondly be remembered and greatly missed by her six children and their spouses, Christopher Lowe and Gwen Goodmanlowe, Brenda and John Pazar, Thomas and Roberta Lowe, Amy Wajda, Damion and Theresa Childs, and Donald Childs; and by her nine grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren. She has been reunited with her husband, Ervin (“Lee”) Lowe, and her beloved son-in-law, John Wajda.
Snookie remained independent at 93, still caring for her plants, raising butterflies, feeding the birds, and welcoming friends and family for a visit in Florida, where she moved with Lee in 2002. She passed unexpectedly but peacefully at home.
A grand celebration of life will happen in June in Florida. A full obituary can be seen at Pinecrest Funeral Chapel website,
