Lacrosse season off to good start
The Martha’s Vineyard girls lacrosse team beat Falmouth 10-8 in their season opener. The score was 6-3 at in favor of the Vineyard girls. Falmouth came back strong in the second half but fell short.
Molly Fischer and Alayna Hutchinson each had four goals and one assist apiece. Madison Hughes rounded out the score with two goals. April Hargy protected the net.

A perfect game is lost
Martha’s Vineyard high school hard luck pitcher Ben Ciciora saw a no hitter turn into a loss at Newburyport, Wednesday, when the Clippers scored on a throwing error in the eighth inning.
Newburyport starter Ryan O’Connor struck out 17 batters en route to a two-hit shutout and 1-0 win.
Vineyarders win at West Yarmouth
Martha’s Vineyard’s girls softball team ran away with a 19-3 softball win at West Yarmouth, Wednesday. The high school softball team wore out the base paths scoring 19 runs while sophomore starter Emily Cemeno held Sturgis to three runs. Emily also hit safely twice in four trips to the plate and scored three runs to help her cause.
Both Crystal Miske and Emily Williston went 4-for-4 at the plate for the Islanders.
The game was shortened to five innings.
