The MVRHS girls tennis team won all three of its singles matches in straight sets, Tuesday, on their home courts, earning a 4-1 victory over visiting Cape Cod Academy. It was the Islanders’ second win against one loss.

Anne Burton won at first singles, 6-3, 6-4. Lauren Persson won at second singles, 6-2, 6-3. Alyssa Adler completed the singles sweep, winning her match, 6-3, 6-4.

At first doubles, Julia Cooper and Annabelle Hackney overcame a first-set loss to win, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1.

Cami Fernandez and Michaela Gaines bowed at second doubles, 2-6, 4-6.

Boys suffer first loss

The boys’ tennis team suffered its first loss of the season to a talented Cape Cod Academy team, 2-3.

The Cape’s Jon Zaman defeated Reid Yennie at first singles, 6-3, 6-2. Justice Yennie bested his CCA opponent, 6-3, 6-2.

Kent Leonard won at second singles when — with the match even, both players having won a set — Will White of Cape Cod was unable to continue play due to cramps. Final count: 3-6, 6-4, 4-3 (retired).

The talented Cape Cod doubles teams were too much for the Vineyarders. Both won in straight sets, 6-2, 6-0 and 6-3, 6-4.

The Vineyarders are 5-1 on the year, 3-0 in the Eastern Athletic Conference.
