Island travel lacrosse teams suffer weekend defeats

The girls’ Under-15 and Under-13 youth lacrosse teams lost to the Lakers of Lakeville at Martha’s Vineyard Sunday.

The 5-9 defeat was the first loss of the year for the U-15s. Aubrey Ashmun scored twice for the Islanders. Hadley Chapman, Shannon Morris, and Belle Dinning also found the back of the net.

The U-13 girls came close but conceded, 6-7. Kylie Hatt, Erin Hill, Audrey McCarron, Kate Sudarsky, Anna Keenan, and Lacy Dinning put the points on the board.

This Sunday the girls take on the Nantucket Whalers at Bourne.

Boys lose at Nauset

Lower Cape lowered the boom on the Vineyard U-13 boys’ team, Sunday at Nauset, 10-4.

Scoring for the Vineyard were Henry Wallace, (3) and Sam Wallace. Assist credits went to Chris Patnaude (2) and Henry Wallace (3) and Sam Wallace.

Coach Mahaffey had high praise for goalie JJ Mendez “who kept us in the game until late in the fourth quarter.”
