Summer has officially arrived, and in addition to blue skies, flowers, and beach scenes, it’s observable at the gallery openings and artists’ receptions taking place up-Island and down-Island. The season is upon us and the chance to gather for reunions and celebrate talent in stimulating, art-filled settings has begun.

The Field Gallery’s opening reception presents a triple-header this Sunday June 26, from 5 to 7 pm. Featured artists, photographer Jhenn Watts and painter Jeff Hoerle, and jeweler Kenneth Pillsworth bring years of experience, unique perspectives, and craftsmanship to their work.

Jeff Hoerle, a plein air painter from upstate New York, has been painting on the Vineyard for the past 20 years. It’s his first solo show at The Field Gallery in 1991. Mr. Hoerle’s landscape paintings emphasize color, form, space, and light. The show features his new series, “Island Shore,” seascapes in oil on canvas.

Jeweler Kenneth Pillsworth, who apprenticed under William Scholl, was among the jewelers who opened Edgartown Jewelers Studio in 1996. Mr. Pillsworth’s newest series of jewelry incorporates rock and beach stones in pendants and rings combined with sterling silver and titanium. His gemstones jewelry will also be displayed.

Jhenn Watts (aka Jennifer Pillsworth) studied photography at Massachusetts College of Art and Design. She has recently begun working with transparency film (slide film) on glass, using a large format camera to capture moments in time. The glass brings added luminosity and depth. Transparency film, extremely sensitive to exposure, results in each image being unique, comparable to a monoprint.

Meet the artists, and welcome another summer season on the Vineyard.
