Martha’s Vineyard skates past Coyle in EAC showdown

The Vineyard boys varsity hockey team posted its biggest win of the season to date by defeating perrenial Eastern Athletic Conference powerhouse Coyle and Cassidy in the league opener, 3-1, on January 4 at Raynham.

Colby Gouldrup, Brian Fraser, and Sam Burke lit the lamp for M.V., who improved to 5-2 on the season. Tyson Araujo had two assists. Bobby Perry was on the ice for all three goals and finished with a plus three rating on the day.

Freshman Dorian Johnson was named player of the game by the team for his stellar play in the absence of captain Nelson Dickson.

The Islanders faced off with unbeaten Bishop Stang in an EAC contest late Wednesday at the Arena, and they host Bishop Feehan Saturday at 1:30 pm.

Jayvees split

The Vineyard jayvee boys blanked Cape Tech 4-0 on Friday and dropped a 5-3 decision to the Plymouth South Panthers Saturday at the Arena.

Harrison Rodrigues scored five goals over the two games to pace M.V.

The jayvees host Falmouth on Friday, Jan. 13 at 6 pm.
