Edward S. Shemit Jr., 69, of Oak Bluffs died on March 16, 2012, while surrounded by his family.
He was born in Meriden, Conn., he lived in Wallingford, Conn, and worked at United Technologies until he retired to Martha’s Vineyard. He had spent vacation time on the Vineyard for over 40 years. He loved relaxing on the porch, spending time with friends and family, playing golf, cards and going clamming. He always enjoyed the sense of peace that came with being on the Island. He was an elder for many years at the St. John’s Lutheran Church in Meriden, Conn. He had a great sense of humor and brought laughter to many. His gentle nature will be missed by those who knew him.
He leaves behind Judy, his wife of 46 years, and their dog, Remy; his son, Jason Shemit, and his wife, Joan, and their daughter, Addison, of Edgartown; his daughter, Jodie Smith, and her husband, Judd, and their children, Lily and Holden, of West Hartford, Conn.; his sister, Gerry Sperry, and her husband, Miles, and their sons, Dean and Todd, of Meriden, Conn.; and many good friends.
A celebration of his life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers or donations, please pass along an act of kindness in honor of Ed. Arrangements are under the care of that Chapman, Cole & Gleason Funeral Home, Oak Bluffs.
