Art for Art celebration

On Friday, July 6, Vineyard Arts Project and Lovebink present Art for Art, a celebration of the 2012 season of Vineyard Arts Project, from 6 to 9 pm at Vineyard Arts Project on Upper Main Street, Edgartown.

The event will feature music by AndrewAndrew and a silent auction with the work of Paul Goodnight and Peter Devine.

Book party

On Friday, June 29, celebrity party planner Debi Lilly will host a public event to honor the launch of her new book, “A Perfect Event: Inspired, Easy Elegance for Every Occasion.”

Debi Lilly is the founder and president of Chicago-based special event company A Perfect Evening. She has thrown fetes for celebrities such as Oprah Winfrey, chef Art Smith, Gayle King, and Giada De Laurentiis. Her book contains tips for party planners on everything from food to cocktails to DIY décor.

Evening of Discovery

The Martha’s Vineyard Museum will hold its 14th annual Evening of Discovery this Saturday, June 30.

This year the event will take place for the first time at the former Marine Hospital/St. Pierre School on Lagoon Pond Road in Vineyard Haven. The evening begins at 6 pm with cocktails, a raw bar, and a silent auction. Dinner is served at 7:15.

Registration and transportation from the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School is available at 5:30 pm. On-site and handicapped parking is available by reservation.

Tickets cost $200; $125 of which is tax deductible. Reservations are required and can be made by calling Jessica at the Museum at 508-627-4441, ext. 117.

Guitarist plays works of great composers

Peter Griggs will play 500 Years Of Music For Guitar on the Island twice: on Saturday, June 30 at the Grace Episcopal Church, located at the intersection of Woodlawn Avenue and Williams Street in Vineyard Haven at 7:30 pm, and Sunday, July 1, at the Chilmark Community Church located on Menemsha Cross Road in Chilmark at 5 pm.

Mr. Griggs, a guitarist and a composer, will play songs from the Renaissance to the contemporary. Selections include music by Gaspar Sanz, Johann Sebastian Bach, Bartolome Calatuyud, Django Rheinhardt and Thelonious Monk, as well as Flamenco, Brazilian music and several of Griggs’ own compositions.

Admission is a free will offering.
