Competitive duplicate bridge is now in full summer-season swing on Martha’s Vineyard with three opportunities during the week for play.
The Island Bridge Club (IBC) game on Thursday, June 28, sanctioned by the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL), saw Molly Whalen and partner Joe Ashcroft take first place overall with a 62.43 percent game. Also playing east-west, Arleen and Ralph Mednick took second place and Bea Phear and Deirdre Ling placed third.
Playing north-south, the teams of Cece Dobbs/Ed Russell and Charlie Harff/Foster Osborne tied for first place. The third-place team was Bob Iadicicco and John O’Keefe. Nine tables were in play.
On Saturday morning, June 30, the Bridge Club of M.V., sanctioned by the American Bridge Association (ABA), had seven tables in play. The east-west team of Agnes and Phil Burch took first place overall (66.21 average). Also playing east-west, Tillie Foster and Emily Robertson came in second and the team of Regina McDonough and Trudy Ulmer took third.
Playing north south, Foster Greene and Ken Judson came in first (63.56 average), Duncan Walton and Ann Brown were second, and Joan Byrd and Clara Hargrave were in third.
And, on Tuesday, June 26, the MV Bridge Club (MVBC) game (also ACBL sanctioned) had six tables in play. Barbara Besse and Sandy Lindheimer took first place (61.82 average). CeCe Dobbs and John O’Keefe took second place, and the Foster Greene/Ken Judson team took third.

The ICB game is held Thursday evenings at 7 pm at the Up-Island Council on Aging Howes House in West Tisbury. Players needing a partner are urged to contact Susan at 508-696-1835 by noon on Wednesday for assistance. The cost is $5 per session.
The Bridge Club of MV meets at the Tisbury Senior Center with continental breakfast at 9 am and play starting at 9:30 am. Players without partners are welcome. The cost is $5. For more information, contact Clara at 508-627-5463.
