It was a battle for the “place” and “show” finishers at the Island Bridge Club (IBC) game on Thursday, July 5.
The IBC game, sanctioned by the American Contract Bridge League (ACBL), saw Mollie Whalen and partner Joe Ashcroft take first place overall with a 71.30 percent game. However, also playing east-west, MaryBeth Loges and her son, Greg Loges, took second place, beating out third-place finishers Jim Kaplan and Barbara McLagan by less than one percentage point.
Playing north-south, the teams of Barbara Besse and Miles Jaffe took first place. Gail Farrish and Charlie Harff came in second and Michael and Sandy Lindheimer took third. Eleven tables were in play.
On Saturday morning, July 7, the Bridge Club of MV, sanctioned by the American Bridge Association (ABA), had seven tables in play. The north-south team of Stanley Kissel and CeCe Dobbs took first place overall (55.42 percent average). Also playing north-south, Donald and Linda Schapiro came in second and the team of Betty Dixon and Clara Hargrave took third.
Playing east-west, Brenda Davenport and Claudia Bowser came in first (54.93 percent average), Millie Henderson and Yvonne Gordon took second place and Trudy Ulmer and Regina McDonough were in third.
And, on Tuesday, July 3, the MV Bridge Club (MVBC) game (also ACBL-sanctioned) had five tables in play. David Donald and Michel Riel took first place (59.26 percent average). Ed Russell and Deirdre Ling took second place, and the Barbara Besse/Sandy Lindheimer team took third.

The ICB game is held Thursday evenings at 7 pm at the Up-Island Council on Aging Howes House in West Tisbury. Players needing a partner are urged to contact Susan at 508-696-1835 by noon on Wednesday for assistance. The cost is $5 per session.
The Bridge Club of MV meets at the Tisbury Senior Center with continental breakfast at 9 am. Play starts at 9:30 am. Players without partners are welcome. The cost is $5. For more information, contact Clara at 508-627-5463.
