William “Billy” Sweeney, 60, of Oak Bluffs, formerly of West Tisbury and Medford, died on August 30 at Mass General Hospital in Boston.
Beloved son of the late Thomas J. and Elizabeth (Pero) Sweeney, Billy was a 1970 graduate of Medford Vocational Technical High School and a former member of the electrical workers union Local 103 IBEW of Boston.
Billy will be remembered for his fond love of Martha’s Vineyard, for his compassion to others, his friendship, his caring ways, his love of life and for his love for all those he has come to know during his many years on the Island.
He is survived by his siblings Thomas Sweeney Jr. and his wife, Patricia, of Stoneham, Eileen Jenks of Asheville, N.C., Robert Sweeney and his wife, Gail, of Hampton, N.H., Richard and his wife, Kathleen, of Scituate, Paul Sweeney and his wife, Donna, of Reading, and John Sweeney of Malden, as well as many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service for Billy will be held on the Island in the near future. The Sweeneys asks that you please pray for our brother Billy. May he rest in peace.
