Jeanette M. Wells, 69, of Oak Bluffs died on December 30 at Massachusetts General Hospital after battling health challenges for years.
Our beloved mother retired to Martha’s Vineyard in 1983 from Brooklyn, New York. She had worked a number of years with the Martha’s Vineyard Branch of the NAACP, including at one time having served as 2nd Vice President of the Chapter. She was best known for her charming smile and strong and determined spirit.
Ms. Wells is survived by her mother, Astrid Radcliffe (New York), daughters and son-in-laws, Douglas and Marsha (Wells) Pegram (Texas) and Robert and Yvette (Wells) Young (Maryland), brothers and a sister-in-law, Harold and Shantel Hunte (South Carolina) and Kenneth Hailey (New York,) and four grandchildren.Funeral Services will take place on Saturday, January 5, at 11 am at the Chapman, Cole and Gleason Funeral Home, Edgartown-Vineyard Haven Road, Oak Bluffs,
