Well, of course since it is vacation week there is not much to report. Many people have left and many year-round businesses are taking a break before spring. “See you in April” signs dot the landscape throughout the Island. I did enjoy a quiet evening on Sunday watching the Oscars with my husband. I liked Seth McFarlane as a host much more than I thought I would, and while the awards themselves felt fairly predictable, I love seeing the fancy dresses. My favorites were Anne Hathaway’s, Halle Berry’s and whoever Quentin Tarentino’s date was, her dress was very cool.

The kids’ dinner and movie nights at the Aquinnah Library have been so much fun. There was one this past week and it was hard to tell who was having a better time, the kids watching the movies or the adults hanging out and talking with each other. Barbara Lampson has done a great job providing food and making sure that all the kids are comfortable. At this last one she had some help from Maisie Sherman, Lisa Sherman’s daughter.

The last kids’ movie and dinner night is going to be next Thursday, March 7. There will be films from Cinema Circus as well as some classic kids’ movies. These evenings are co-presented by the Aquinnah Community Programs Committee (ACPC), as opposed to the preservation committee, as I previously reported.Today at the library there will be a screening of a family-friendly (PG 13) action film at 5 pm. Popcorn and lemonade will be served during the film.

The Town Hall is on limited hours this week due to the vacation week. The Town Clerk will be in today from 10 am to 4 pm and the Assessor will be available after 12 noon on Friday. Normal hours will resume on Monday, March 4.

The next Blood Pressure Clinic in Aquinnah will be held March 14 from 2 to 3 pm in the Town Hall. Free and open to all residents of Aquinnah. If you have any questions please contact town nurse Mary McLaughlin, RN, at 781-534-2543.

Happy Birthday to Penny Huff who celebrates on Sunday.

I’m off to Vermont and Canada this week; I can’t wait to hear all about everyone’s vacation. And I can’t wait for winter to be over.
