Artist Joe Palermo is doing double duty in the Vineyard art scene this month: see his work at the Chilmark Bank of Martha’s Vineyard and at the Vineyard Haven Library.
Mr. Palermo, a native of Canada and former resident of New Jersey and Florida who relocated here three years ago, has been painting for almost 75 years.
“Throughout a life of various career and location changes, one thing has remained a constant: Mr. Palermo has always found the time to paint,” wrote Gwyn McAllister in a Times article published on January 8. “Self-taught, the talented artist started out executing oil paintings, but he eventually switched to watercolors, his medium of choice for the past 30 years or so. Up until a few years ago, Mr. Palermo created a painting a day.”
Mr. Palermo will show watercolors at the Chilmark Bank from May 17–31, with an opening reception on the 17th from 4 to 6 pm.
He joins the Vineyard Haven Library’s Art in the Stacks exhibition for the month of May, and will also exhibit watercolors of Vineyard landscapes, coastal scenes, and Island lighthouses. See his work during normal library hours.
