The third consecutive state tournament appearance for the Martha’s Vineyard Regional High School softball team ended abrubtly with a 12-0 loss to the 14th-seeded Holliston Panthers in the MIAA Division 2 South Sectional preliminary round Thursday at Holliston High School.

The 19th-seeded Vineyarders (11-10) were held to two hits. Emily Turney doubled and Megan Buchanan singled. Vineyard starter Hailee McCarthy yielded five earned runs.
