The Vineyard boys varsity tennis team advanced to the MIAA Division 3 South Sectional finals with a convincing 5-0 win over Dover-Sherborn Wednesday afternoon in Oak Bluffs. The second-seeded Vineyarders (18-1) will play either top seed Westport or fourth seed Norwell Saturday at 4 pm at Barnstable High School’s Marston Mills courts.
The Vineyard win on Wednesday was a familiar result against a familiar foe. The Vineyarders have defeated Dover-Sherborn (15-5) in all three meetings this season, and they beat the Raiders in last year’s South Sectional final.
Justice Yennie got M.V. off to a fast start with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Russ Daly at third singles. First doubles tandem Patrick McCarthy and Jackson McBride followed up with a 6-0, 6-3 win over Alex Qian-Wang and Roberto Barbier. Then, in short order, Kent Leonard defeated Christian Baker, 6-3, 6-0, at second singles; Natty Schneider topped Stefano Barbier, 6-4, 6-1, at first singles; and second doubles duo Justin Smith and Ryan Sawyer defeated Alex Adamczyk and Emilio Fytopoulas, 6-2, 6-2.
