Has anyone been noticing the amazing sunsets we have been having lately? Nature has really been outdoing herself. It seems like every night there is the most spectacular display of pink streaks, or gray clouds shapes and a red sun descending. I have had some amazing, albeit a little distracted, rides home lately driving into the sunset.

This Saturday at the library you can come in and decorate cupcakes — now that’s a good library. I never got anything like that from my library when I was a kid. I just got books. Come in between 12 noon and 3 pm and decorate cupcakes (including gluten-free). The following Saturday the craft time will focus on Chanukah and on November 30: Legos.

Remember that November is digital download month at the library, and you can come in and get tutored in how to download books, movies, and music to your iPad, iPod, or Kindle.

There will be winter farmer’s markets this Saturday and next, November 16 and 23 at the Agricultural Hall from 10 am to 1 pm. If you are planning your Thanksgiving dinner this is the perfect event for you: you can go to the farmer’s market and order turkeys, pies etc. Also you can do some Christmas shopping of local goods.

Anne Vanderhoop is recovering from her hip surgery at Spaulding Rehab. No word on exactly when she’ll be home, but she is in good spirits, and she is working hard on getting better.

There is talk of decorating the Lighthouse with lights for the holiday and also of a winter Solstice party up there. I will keep you posted as I get more information. Speaking of the winter holidays, we need some volunteers for the Christmas party. Nonie Madison is overseeing it again this year so if you would like to help let her know, or send me your contact information and I’ll get it to her.

We also need a couple more people on the Friends of the Aquinnah Public Library group. We need five people to complete our membership, four of whom can be seasonal residents. Duties include fundraising for the library and meeting about once a month. The next meeting will be in January. If you are interested please let me know.

Thank you to Albert Fischer and all veterans of Aquinnah who have served in the U.S. Armed Forces. This past Monday was of course Veterans Day and we thank you for your service.
