Vineyard Haven residents George and Sheryl Rogers are the new owners of Maciel Marine.

After months of negotiating a deal, the Rogerses concluded the sale Wednesday.

Located at the west end of Lagoon Pond in Vineyard Haven, Maciel Marine will now be called Martha’s Vineyard Marina.

Mr. and Mrs. Rogers, the owners of Edgartown Marine since 2011, described what’s first on their agenda for their new acquisition.

“Like anything else, you have to assess what you have,” Mr. Rogers told The Times. “Now it’s real, so we want to find ways to make this a more productive and more valuable piece of property, and we have to invest in it.”

The Rogerses, who met when they were working at General Mills in Minneapolis, said their professional experience operating businesses has led them to their ownership of two boatyards.

“If you would have asked me a couple of years ago that we would own not one but two boatyards here on the Island, I would have said you were crazy,” Mr. Rogers said. “We recognize that this boatyard has some very talented people, and we want to build on that. At the end of the day, we want to offer the highest quality service at the most competitive price.”

Mr. Rogers, a former Wall Street investor, and Ms. Rogers, who worked in marketing and advertising, fulfilled their dream of moving to the Island full-time after making frequent weekend trips.

While they would not disclose the financial details of the sale, they said they are looking forward to this next chapter in their lives.

“It’s in my DNA,” Mr. Rogers said. “I was born and raised here. And as a young person growing up and watching the change that took place on the Island, it was a reminder to me that you can control your environment, that you can step up and do something. So, to some degree, that’s what we’re doing here. There’s a level of preservation we want to keep.”
