John H. Kinnecom

John H. Kinnecom died on Sunday, May 18, at the Tiffin Mercy Hospital in Tiffin, Ohio. He was 90.

John was born on April 29, 1924, in Warwick, Rhode Island, to the late Harold E. and Catherine J. (Calanan) Kinnecom. John moved to the Island when his father, Harold, was stationed at the Gay Head Life Saving Station. The family lived on Daggett Avenue in Tisbury for many years. John graduated from the Tisbury High School and went on to the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Conn. He spent one year in the academy and then joined the U.S. Navy in July of 1943. He was a Radioman Second Class and served in the Pacific Theater during WW II.

John retired from working in sales for most of his life. He was a member of the United Church of Toledo and also an active member in AA. John also loved working in his flower garden and with his electric trains.

Survivors include his children, Robert Kinnecom of Chuckwalla, Calif., Jack Shrewsbery of Tyler, Tex., Joseph Shrewsbery of Minden, W.V., John Kinnecom, and Patricia Dautremont and a brother, Capt. Robert E. Kinnecom and his wife, Ernestine, of Oak Bluffs. Also numerous nieces and nephews.

John wished to be cremated and have his ashes spread on Devil’s Bridge off of Gay Head.

Memorial donations may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice in John’s memory.
