Families assembled from near and far, coming together for a long weekend, the official start of summer. Hope you and yours had a good one. Last summer I met Grace Culley Adamson with her then 10-month-old son, River, on the porch of the Chilmark Store. Proud father and grandfather Dr. Gregory Culley shared that “Grace has successfully completed her first year of medical school at the University of Vermont, age 38, with outstanding grades.” And he is thrilled to add, “They will be at 443 South Road, the porch of the Chilmark Store, Lucy Vincent Beach, and the Chilmark library on Story & Music days through the first week in August. Then back to Burlington, Vt., for year two of med school.”

Last week I told you Chilmark Coffee owner and Town Clerk Jennifer Christy’s artwork was at The Granary; however, she joins two other Chilmark artists, Colin Ruel and Wendy Weldon, at the Field Gallery. In fact, it’s been hard to miss her wonderful abstract works, hanging most days on the outside wall facing State Road. She has two small and three large paintings available. It’s great to see her work in a public space! Congratulations to all.

If you’re walking along Squid Row, you may notice the brand-new Fresh Sashimi shack, which opened on July 4, selling out after 55 customers stopped by between 4 and 7 pm. I just happened to walk by when proprietor Karsten Larsen stopped by. Then Stan Larsen, still in his rubber boots, stopped by to snap a keepsake photo.
