Jack Schott, a member of the Edgartown Croquet Club profiled in a story published August 13, “Croquet attracts devoted Island fans,” captured the championship of the United States Croquet Association (USCA) combined New England and Middle Atlantic Regional Tournament at Lenox on August 12 through 15.

Here is the play-by-play as described in the USCA newsletter: “In Championship Singles, after block play in two blocks, Patrick Little was seeded first from his block after going undefeated in four games. Little continued his winning ways until the final, beating Christophe Bergen and Chris Loat. The top seed from the other block, David Ekstrom, also undefeated in block play, beat Jim Turner in his first-round match, but lost to John Schott in the semifinal by 15-14 in 2 overtime rotations. The final match between Little and Schott, after some initial jockeying, saw Schott finding his groove as he handily won on time 20-7.”

“I had won twice previously, in 1982 and 2001,” Mr. Schott, 75, said in an email to The Times. “It is possible that I am the oldest winner in its 34-year history.”
