Congratulations to Timothy Unczur, who is now an Eagle Scout. The son of Gregory and Deborah Unczur of Danvers, he is a member of Troop 155. He is a senior at Danvers High School, and plans a career in physical therapy. Tim became a Cub Scout at age 6. His dad is now the Scoutmaster, and was also an Eagle Scout.
This Eagle Scout truly earned his badge. He and some other Boy Scouts built a bridge to connect the senior center with the elementary school, so that seniors could cross the wetlands. The trip otherwise took a bus journey. Tim had to raise the money for the wood as well as get approval for the project from the town. It took him 18 months to get approval from all the departments, including the Conservation Commission, which set the regulations for building a bridge through the wetlands. Some commented he got permission a lot faster than others might have.
Timothy is the grandson of the late Henry Unczur. Attending the ceremony last week from the Vineyard were his grandmother Linda Unczur, his aunt Susan Weyl, and his uncle Mark Baline.

It is a small world. Just when the news seems the worst, we hear some of the good things. The brilliant photographer who is the creator of Vineyard Colors, Yann Meersseman of Oak Bluffs, announced that his son Arnaud was shot during the terrorist attack at the concert hall in Paris, but it looks as if he will survive. After surgery, he is in an induced coma for a few days. No vital organs were affected, but one lung is damaged, and the bullet passed so close to his heart that the doctors prefer to do some extra monitoring for a while. His mother lives in France and is already beside him. His father plans to be there when he wakes up. Islanders will join in wishing the family a good recovery.

I have some good news: I hope to bring my husband Donald home from Whittier Rehabilitation Hospital on the Monday after Thanksgiving. It has taken nearly two months, but we hope this adventure is about to come to a close.
