The Spirituals Choir, under the direction of Jim Thomas, will give an educational performance of authentic U.S. slave songs (dating from 1619 to 1865) this Saturday, July 2, at the Edgartown library at 2 pm. Mr. Thomas formed his 33-voice choral group, the U.S. Slave Song Project Spirituals Choir, on Martha’s Vineyard over a decade ago, at the behest of the Island chapter of the National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP). The performance is free and open to the public. For more information, call 508-627-4221 or visit edgartownlibrary.org.
