At Edgartown Pizza, dining out doesn’t have to break the bank

Sometimes I take living on Martha’s Vineyard for granted. But when I meet a family on vacation and I hear their gratitude to be here, I take a step back and feel thankful myself. These families save up to take the vacation of a lifetime on the Vineyard — the lure of the Island isn’t just gorgeous beaches and picturesque lighthouses, but a sense of relaxation that attracts hundreds of thousands of visitors every year. Once the ferry docks, they breathe a sigh of relief — until their kids start whining that they are hungry.

This Island is definitely not the most affordable family vacation on the planet. So once the savings are used up to pay for the travel and hotel, families must work magic to eat delicious things, while still sticking to a budget. Today, I’m sharing my latest affordable, family-friendly spot in Edgartown: Edgartown Pizza.

Edgartown Pizza is more than just a pizza place, co-owners Christine White and Danny Segal let me know. For starters, it’s a great spot to take the family if you have kids 10 and under, because they have an entire menu for children and it’s all $4.95, whether your kids love chicken tenders, spaghetti and meatballs, or a simple peanut butter and jelly. You can feed a family of four for under $40 here, which you can’t say about most places in Edgartown.

This local restaurant is also very community-driven, giving discounts for local sports teams, religious groups, Island fundraising, and more. Supporting (and feeding) the locals is something both Ms. White and Mr. Segal in believe wholeheartedly. As a year-round restaurant, their main focus is to serve good food and make guests feel comfortable in their establishment, whether that means changing the channel on the TV for your kids to watch their favorite cartoons or accommodating a specific diet. Heck, they’re even starting up a small delivery service with a designated drop-off area for those who want to avoid the traffic congestion of the Edgartown Triangle during the summer months.

In addition to pizza, they have a great burger menu with a variety of burgers that will blow your tastebuds away. Try their Blue Cheese Burger ($12.95), layered with tangy blue cheese, bacon, and a fried egg, all between a soft bun, with fries on the side. Their grilled items are also popular, such as their extra-large teriyaki tips served with rice and salad ($22.95), which could easily feed two adults.

If you’re looking for gluten-free options, they have them, including a gluten-free pizza crust. For vegetarians, fresh salads abound, as well as delicious rice and beans. Craving a breakfast sandwich at 3 pm? Edgartown Pizza serves their breakfast sandwich ($5.95) all day long. They open at 10:30 am, but they’ll start taking takeout phone orders starting at 9 am, so you can call in before the beach or work.
Edgartown Pizza is located on 224 Edgartown–Vineyard Haven Road, and can be reached at 508-627-7770. Follow them on Facebook for daily specials: facebook.com/EdgartownPizza.
