Once again, the Edgartown eighth graders have successfully toured and returned from Washington, D.C. Reports are that the trip went well and was a great success. The kids looked a little tired still upon their return to school this morning, but none the worse for wear. As always, the advisors, kids, parents, and everyone involved in the fundraising and the trip wishes to extend a big thank-you to our community for their support in getting the kids to D.C. for yet another year. Let the fundraising for the 2018 trip begin!

Felix Neck has announced that after 53 years, Fern and Feather Camp is getting its own space. The new Education and Camp Barn will be ready for this summer’s campers, and the vision for a future nature-based preschool has begun to take shape, thanks to the incredible generosity of this community.
This project has happened quickly in all aspects. The Island community rallied around the project, and Felix Neck was able to raise the building funds in under six months with the help of many individuals and groups. A very significant grant from MV Youth allowed them to convert their planned seasonal building into a year-round space that will accommodate their needs for the next half-century. Other vital funds came from Farm Neck Foundation, Rotary Club of Martha’s Vineyard, Anne E. Clark Foundation, M.V. Harley Riders, Cronig’s Market, Island Tire and Auto, Kirkland and Shaw Plumbing, Felix Neck Wildlife Trust, and many friends and neighbors.
The building process happened faster than imaginable for a spring building project on Martha’s Vineyard. It is hard to believe that the first phase of construction just started in April, and the building is now ready for summer campers. They were only able to meet the deadline with the help and commitment of their builder, Autumn Construction. The post and beam was raised in two days by a group of Amish carpenters and Island contractors, and businesses have worked hard to keep them on schedule and keep costs down. In the fall, the second phase will begin, adding restrooms and utilities so that the year-round building will be available by October. On Monday, June 12, at 5 pm, there will be a Ribbon-Cutting Ceremony open to the public to celebrate the new Camp Barn and Felix Neck as a special place for learning, nature, and community. Please stop by anytime to marvel at the progress, and see the future home of Fern and Feather.
Phil Dietterich and Peter Boak will lead the Sunday morning worship service at the Federated Church on June 11. The congregation will also have an opportunity to choose some of their favorite hymns to sing. The service will begin at 10:30 am at the Federated Church, 45 South Summer St., in Edgartown.
