The seventh annual blessing of the pets, sponsored by the Animal Shelter of Martha’s Vineyard, took place at the Harbor View Hotel in Edgartown on Saturday, June 3. Father Nagle, the pastor for Good Shepherd Parish, was on hand to bless each of the pets brought by an estimated 40 people. Among a mostly dog-oriented crowd, two alpacas and a cat or two really stood out.
“The Harbor View donates the space, and it’s a very accommodating, pet-friendly place to go,” said Father Nagle. “You see the same people every year, and there seemed to be more people this year. It’s a nice celebration; being thankful for the gift of the pets that we have and asking for God’s blessing on them.”
After each pet was blessed and had had his or her fill of water and treats on the Harbor View porch, the group followed the Black Dog mascot on a parade around the historic Edgartown Lighthouse.
