The MV Island Home, just back in service since Thursday, suffered a brief delay Sunday morning when the ferry’s doors would not close, Steamship Authority general manager Robert Davis confirmed in an email to The Times.
The Times reported the half-hour delay via Twitter this morning based on a customer’s email and seeing the vessel still in its slip in Woods Hole until 6:30 am Sunday. The Island Home had been scheduled to make the 6 am run from Woods Hole to Vineyard Haven. It did make the crossing, but later than scheduled.
Davis wrote that the doors were not part of the work that the Island Home underwent when it was at Senesco Marine in North Kingstown, R.I. Senesco is the same place where the MV Martha’s Vineyard underwent a $17.5 million midlife refurbishment. When that ferry returned to service it had several problems, including an incident March 17 when it lost power on its crossing from Vineyard Haven to Woods Hole stranding passengers for five hours.
