Man injured in kitesurfing accident

A kitesurfer was taken to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital Thursday morning after being injured in an accident in the water off Edgartown.

At approximately 10:45 am, police responded to a call of an injured kitesurfer outside of Edgartown Harbor.

According to Edgartown Police Lt. Chris Dolby, the injured kitesurfer was brought into Memorial Wharf by boat, where an ambulance was staged. The ambulance then rushed the kitesurfer to Martha’s Vineyard Hospital with a laceration on his leg, harbormaster Charlie Blair told The Times.

There is a kitesurfing competition going on off Cape Poge through Nov. 4, though it’s not immediately known if he was part of that event.
