R & B’s Eatery is a cozy local spot in Edgartown, situated right next to Larry’s Tackle Shop and adjacent to Bad Martha’s, open until 2 pm all year long.
Often praised for its tasty breakfast and cheap eats, R & B’s has plenty of options for a midday bite as well. Members of the Times crew headed over to sample some of the casual fare from its extensive menu.
Times photo editor Gabrielle Mannino chose a good old Steak and Cheese with peppers and onions, and a side of french fries ($8.75). Reporter Brian Dowd decided on a Turkey Club on pumpernickel bread, also with fries ($8.75).
As for yours truly, a last-minute decision on a “South of the Border” order satisfied my cravings. My Grilled Chicken Quesadilla with sautéed onions was served with salsa and sour cream ($8.75), and certainly hit the spot. The Grilled Cuban with yellow mustard and sliced pickles was a close second ($8.75). For a side, I picked the potato salad made with quartered red potatoes and crunchy celery.
The restaurant had a bookshelf where customers could pick up a book to take home with them, as well as donate a book they had already read.
Although there was plenty of seating available inside the restaurant, we decided to sit outside on a bench and enjoy the sunny yet breezy day.
R & B’s is a local haunt, where you are likely to see many early-rising Islanders enjoying a steaming cup of coffee or a full plate of eggs with all the fixin’s.
One review on tripadvisor.com, a popular destination review site, says, “Eat where the locals eat. You don’t have to spend a fortune to get a good meal in Edgartown. This small place has great food at great prices for breakfast and lunch.”
Another reviewer, Andrea M., from Falmouth, said, “Probably the most reasonable prices on Martha’s Vineyard. I’ve had at least seven or eight different menu items, and I’ve enjoyed them all immensely.”
Another attraction that makes this spot unique is that the staff will pack you a bagged lunch to take to the beach if you are hurrying to get a parking spot during the busy summer season. Now if that isn’t quintessential Vineyard hospitality, I don’t know what is.
R & B’s Eatery is located at 258 Upper Main St. in Edgartown. It is open Monday through Saturday, 6:30 am to 2 pm. It is closed on Sundays.
