If you are thinking of going for a walk in the woods, think twice, as shotgun season started this past Monday. If you are going to be in the woods, and don’t want to get accidentally shot, please wear blaze orange. Shotgun season will end on Dec. 8, and then primitive firearm season will begin. The deer-hunting season will end on Dec. 31.
Lila Fischer is holding another “Walk and Talk with a Nurse” today from 3:30 to 4:30 pm. Meet Lila at the library, and she can take your blood pressure, and/or you can ask health-related questions.
Pathway Arts will host its first multimedia event of the season on Friday, Nov. 30, at 7 pm. There will be many art forms involved, including work by Jan Hulka, Enrico Holly, Andy Herr, Barnyard Saints, Niki Patton, Scott Crawford, Lisa Gross, and Danielle Doell. Family Qi Gong, for health and well-being, will start on Saturday, Dec. 1. This is a group for all ages, and it will be led by Allison Cameron Parry. The class will be held on Saturdays at 3 pm. There is a $15 suggested donation. Pathways Living Room Studios is open daily from 11 am to 5 pm, every day except Wednesday and Sunday. They also have a gift shop set up in their space, so stop in if you need to do some shopping. Pathways is located at 9 State Rd. in Chilmark. There will be “Offerings of Music and Light” at the Chilmark Community Church the next three Sundays in December, starting this week. At 5 pm Island artists and musicians will present a variety of performances of song, dance, story, and pieces for the piano and strings. There will also be candle lighting and refreshments. Training for Houses of Grace will take place on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 7 pm at the Good Shepherd Parish Center at 55 School St. in Oak Bluffs. HOG is the overnight shelter program on Martha’s Vineyard that runs from Jan. 1 through March 31. It is completely volunteer-staffed. There are two shifts, one from 6:30 to 9 pm, and an overnight shift from 8:30 pm to 7 am. They also need volunteers outside of shift hours for different projects. I am really looking forward to the Aquinnah Artisans Holiday Sale on Saturday, Dec. 8, from 10 am to 4 pm at the Aquinnah Town Hall. There will be handmade jewelry, pottery, clothing, art cards, Island-made salves and balms, unique gifts, and much more. There will be food from Orange Peel Bakery and Island Stone Soup Kitchen, plus an ornament- and card-making craft table.
