Summer is on, hot days and thankfully some breezy evenings. I am finally settled in to the rhythm of the season. My visiting Kaiut Yoga teachers have fallen in love with our Island, and look forward to returning, my garden is growing, my dogs are slowing down in their senior ways, and visitors abound.

Our man in the field of dreams, Sig Van Raan, sadly missed this week’s Chilmark softball game, so we hope he gets better and is ready to play soon. What he did share was that when he recently visited the late Tony Horwitz’s wife, author Geraldine Brooks shared that she plans to commission a memorial bench for the softball field in her husband’s honor. What we do know about last week’s two games is they were well played under perfect skies, with a strong turnout of players and spectators. Whether you live in Chilmark or not, know you are welcome to join in the fun, 8 am at Flanders Field on Pasture Road off Tabor House.
