Barred Owl
By Warren Woessner

Swoops into the crest
of the big cottonwood
by the brook,
but can’t escape the mob
of crows at his heels.
So he sits tight
Iike a fat banker—
tongue-tied, twisting
to watch both ways at once
while the James Gang
tugs at his watch chain,
turns his pockets inside out.

Warren Woessner splits his time between Martha’s Vineyard and Minneapolis where he birds constantly and works as a patent attorney. Six books of his poetry have been published including “Exit ~ Sky” (Holy Cow! Press).

Poets with a connection to Martha’s Vineyard are encouraged to submit poems to Poet’s Corner curator Laura Roosevelt at ldroosevelt@gmail.com
